2 Years of Second Language

2 Years of Second Language

Arizona universities require that all students complete at least two years of the same language prior to admission. This is possibly the most flexible category, as a student could even test out of a few years of classes if they read, write and speak another language natively.  If you already speak a second language, try taking on a third language.  This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your linguistic abilities and stand out among the crowd of applications.

Deficiencies

Although you should always plan to complete the Sweet 16 courses, you could have up to 1 year missing in the second language category and still be admitted (assuming you have completed all the coursework in at least four of the remaining five areas of study).

How to Plan for Second Language

Below is a chart that can provide an idea of which classes a student should be taking each year to complete their two or more years of a second language. This chart is only an example of possible course combinations a student might complete.  You should always consult your school counselor each year when designing your schedule, and identify yourself as a "college-bound" student.
