Involvement, leadership, and community service are often factors considered in the college admissions process. Just as these factors help a student enrich their high school experiences beyond the academic, so does engagement at the college or university level. At the University of Arizona, the university strives to have 100% of its students engaged in some of the following ways:

Clubs & Organizations

With over 400 clubs and organizations, the University of Arizona has quite a bit for students to get involved with. If by chance the university does not have the club or organization for you, have a few friends join you, follow the process, and become founders of that new engagement opportunity.

Intramural Sports

While many students enjoy cheering on the home team, there are some students that enjoy a bit of competitiveness and enjoy being in the game. Intramural Sports are offered through the University of Arizona’s Campus Recreation. Students are welcome to engage for fun or to battle for the intramural championship.

Leadership

There are a lot of ways for students to continue to develop their leadership skills on campus. At the University of Arizona, the Blue Chip Leadership Experience provides facilitated leadership skill development that can be customized to each student. This engagement can also result in a Leadership Minor if students are interested.

Student Government

The Associated Students of the University of Arizona (ASUA) serves as the student government, representing and advocating for the student body. Students may have had student council experience in high school or may be choosing to get involved in this level of campus leadership while in college.

Employment

Employment on-campus, or off-campus, can also equip students with experiences and skills to add to their resume to prepare them for future employment. On the University of Arizona campus, students can utilize an online resource called Handshake to access job and internship postings.

Community Service

Community Engagement through Experiential Learning helps faculty, community organizations, and students to participate in projects that deepen the campus-community relationship, expand student investment in our local community, and cultivate a growing, positive social impact for Tucson and beyond. This is facilitated through events, resources, support, course projects, co-curricular projects, and internships.

Research

Some students would prefer to get more involved with the academic nature of the university. For these students, Undergraduate Research allows them to work directly with a faculty member, in a research lab, or with a team conducting research on- and off-campus that allows for discovery and innovation. These experiences allow students to be engaged in contributing to the future academic discourse and literature within higher education.
