Personal Interviews

Consider First Impressions
In Arizona, interviews for admission are fairly rare. Some out-of-state universities may choose to have alumni (or former students) interview students seeking admission. Personal interviews for scholarship consideration are more frequent and can be integrated into a scholarship application process.
In any case, this likely will mean that you will be meeting with someone in-person or online via Zoom, Google Meets, Teams or some other online video conferencing platform. Have your camera on (unless there are circumstances that prevent it) and always consider a space that will allow you to be free from any distractions during the interview. First impressions are critical.
If you are meeting in-person, you will want to do your best to dress the part. On some occasions, you may have the opportunity to ask about the recommended dress code for the interview. This likely will not mean that formal attire is necessary, but it may mean borrowing or investing in an outfit that you believe presents you as professionally as possible.
Preparation is Key
Be sure to think about what questions you believe will be asked during the interview. Is the organization considering you for a scholarship based on your service to the community? Is it instead a prestigious university that wants to know how your academic and career goals align with attendance at their university. If comfortable, you may even ask what types of questions might be best to prepare for. If additional details are not available to help you plan, consider the topics that often come up in personal statements.
